Since Plannotator 0.28.0, Ask AI can be answered by the agent session that opened Plannotator. Plannotator calls this Ask this session. The agent already knows the conversation, so you do not have to explain the context.

Where it works

In these sessions, Ask this session is the only Ask AI option. There is no provider or model picker, and a provider you saved before is not used.

How it works

  • Your question shows in the agent’s chat. The answer streams back into Plannotator.
  • The question and the answer become part of the agent’s conversation.
  • If the agent is busy with a turn, Plannotator asks what to do: Ask when it finishes or Interrupt and ask now.
  • Stopping a question stops only that question.
  • If the session closes or cannot be reached, Plannotator says so. It does not switch to a different AI.

OpenCode 2 plan review

During plan review, the OpenCode 2 session is waiting for your plan decision, so it cannot run a full turn. You get a quick answer from the session’s context, labeled “Quick answer from this session”. Nothing is added to the conversation.

When you pick a provider instead

Ask AI uses a provider you pick, as described in Ask AI during a review, when:
  • the session is in remote mode or published with --tailscale
  • Plannotator was opened from OpenCode 1
  • the Claude Code mod is off, or Claude Code runs without it (versions before 2.1.287, claude -p, SDK runs, Windows)
  • you run the plannotator command yourself, outside an agent session

What still uses its own models

Agent reviews, Code Tour, and Guided Review are separate from Ask AI. They run their own Claude or Codex models, or another installed agent CLI, even in a session where Ask AI uses the session.
